Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara–Clean Formula that doesn’t Clump or Flake

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral MascaraI’ve reviewed quite a few Pacifica products. Pacifica is one of my favorite brands for body care and skincare. For some reason, I never tried any of their makeup until very recently. I ordered a wide variety of products and my order was big enough that I received a free gift, a mini size of the Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara!

Pacifica makeup in general is not discussed often in the beauty community. I’m really not sure why! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a review of any Pacifica mascaras, so I’m here to review the Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara today.

I was so excited to try this mascara because I thought it might be an affordable alternative to the ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara. The ILIA and Pacifica mascaras are the only clean mascara formulas I’ve ever tried. I must say that I am pleased! Keep reading for my full review of the Pacifica Stellar Gaze Mascara.

Wand/ease of application

I want to preface this section by stating that I’ve never owned the full-size version of Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara. I have a mini version that has a much shorter applicator. However, mini mascaras usually have the same type of brush as their full-size counterparts.

The wand for this mascara has a brush applicator with fiber bristles rather than rubber “spiky” bristles. While I enjoy both types of brushes, this kind is great at coating every eyelash. It also has a slightly conical/pointed shape which is helpful for reaching shorter lashes toward the inner corner of the eye.

The bad thing about this mascara’s brush is its size. It is much larger than what I’m used to. As you can see in this photo, the applicator is bigger than my eye! Granted, my eyes aren’t very large, but I definitely think mascara applicators shouldn’t be this big.

People with larger eyes and very thick eyelashes may not be bothered by the size of this brush. However, since my eyes are a bit small with hooded lids and my lashes aren’t the thickest, this large brush really makes it more difficult for me to apply the mascara than it should be. No matter how careful I am, I always end up touching the brush to my eyelid, smudging mascara on my skin. And don’t even think about using this mascara on the lower lash line…that would be a smudgy mess! It’s easy enough to remove with a cotton swab, but that’s not always an option if I’m also wearing eyeshadow.

There is one other factor to take into consideration with this mascara’s application. The formula is quite wet. For some people that is a good thing, while others may be bothered by it. I don’t mind too much, but since it is a wet formula, it takes longer to dry. The upside is that this mascara layers well. I’ve found that when some formulas dry too quickly, it’s tough to build up to the desired length and volume.

The #1 thing I look for in a mascara is length. I think my eyes look so much bigger and prettier when I’m having a good “lash day” with long lashes! My eyelashes aren’t too short, probably average, but they always look so much better with enough mascara applied to look like “my lashes but better.”

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara does an excellent job at lengthening. It does take some time to build to the length I want, but for a more natural look it wouldn’t take long at all. I hope you can see in this photo that my lashes look fanned out and perfectly lengthened! I have a lot of those good “lash days” with this mascara. 🙂

As you can probably guess from the name of this mascara, it is better at lengthening than volumizing. It does add some volume, but not as much as some people want. I personally love the way this mascara makes my eyelashes look. Volumizing mascaras often make lashes look clumped together, but this one never clumps!

Staying power

A lot of mascaras have a tendency to flake or smudge, either under the eyes or even on the eyelid. When that happens, it can ruin a whole makeup look! No one wants raccoon eyes.

Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara stays put all day long. I’ve never experienced any flaking or smudging while wearing this mascara. I don’t think I’ve ever been caught in the rain while wearing it, but I don’t think it would budge even then unless I really got soaked! If it did run a little, that would be reasonable since this isn’t a waterproof formula.

The other thing I consider when determining a mascara’s staying power, is its ability to hold a curl. It’s strange, some days like today, I think this Pacifica mascara holds a curl really well. Other days, not so much. I think it depends on how well I curl my lashes before applying mascara. Today, I held the curler on my lashes longer than I usually do. If your eyelashes are naturally straight like mine, I definitely recommend using an eyelash curler and making them “extra curled” before applying this mascara!

Ease of removal

For a mascara that isn’t waterproof, this one is more difficult to remove than I expected! It won’t come off with warm water and face wash. It also doesn’t come off with my Derma E Universal Cleansing Balm, until I add water (I prefer to remove that with a washcloth instead of rinsing off with water, so that’s kind of inconvenient). Until I started using this mascara, I thought that cleansing balm would remove pretty much anything. Fortunately, I’ve found that I can easily dissolve this mascara with baby shampoo.

I wish I could remove this mascara with face wash and warm water alone, but I’m glad that after some troubleshooting I was able to find something that will take it off easily enough. It’s tougher than most non-waterproof formulas, but it’s still easier to remove than the really stubborn waterproof mascaras!

There are a lot of mascaras at the drugstore priced at or below $10.00. While there are some drugstore mascaras priced higher, they’re in the minority. I was surprised to see that Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara is $14.00! I’ve never spent that much on a drugstore mascara.

While $14.00 is high for a drugstore mascara, I actually think it’s reasonable in this case. Most mascaras formulated with clean ingredients, like the ILIA mascara I mentioned in the intro, are quite expensive (the ILIA mascara is $28.00). There aren’t many clean options at the drugstore, and even fewer when you eliminate the ones that aren’t 100% cruelty-free. Pacifica is always cruelty-free and vegan.

While this product could be improved, it checks all the boxes for what is most important to me in a mascara. I’m willing to pay a little more for things that I know are effective!

I was a little bit skeptical about Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara before I tried it. Honestly that’s only because I usually buy products based on reviews I’ve seen and I’m certain I’ve never seen a review of any Pacifica mascaras. I probably never would’ve tried this one if Pacifica hadn’t sent it along with my order as a free gift. I’m so glad they did send it to me though, because I do enjoy this mascara! I appreciate its clean ingredients and of course the pretty fluttery effect that it gives my lashes.

In the intro, I mentioned that I had been hopeful Pacifica Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara would be an affordable alternative to ILIA Limitless Lash Mascara. They are both great products, but I can confidently say that I still prefer ILIA’s formula and brush. However, if a $28.00 mascara isn’t in your budget, this mascara from Pacifica is still good and only half the price.

Everyone has unique preferences with mascaras, so not everyone will like this one. But others will love it! This mascara is definitely for those that value length and separation over volume. It’s perfect for a natural look or realistically lengthened lashes.
